My January in Review…

We started out the month with our trip to New Haven. It was lots of fun, I really enjoyed getting to meet Jason’s friends and going to NYC for a day…

Next up was my birthday… :) The big 25, Jason bought a cake and wrote my name on it himself… and got me some flowers and took me out… it was nice… relaxing… I forgot to go to the casino to get some free $ though…

The weekend after my birthday we went to WI to see Jason’s brother in a show, that was fun. He did an awesome job. We got yelled at twice for taking photos, though… so I don’t have any of him doing his solo… but Jason’s dad got some.

And since then I have been just working and relaxing with the pups and Jason… Penny hurt her paw again… we are trying to see if it will heal on its own… its just a little sore… but now she has to wear boots when she goes outside… which is goofy… but cute.. :)

Who do I look like?

Resolution….

So I usually don’t do resolutions… which is what EVERYONE says… but really I don’t… But this year I decided to try a challenge… The 50 book challenge to be exact.

So I have already finished two books… before I even started talking about this…

The first book was “The Namesake” by Jhumpa Lahiri
This was our January book club book. I enjoyed this book but didn’t love it. It was interesting to learn more about Indian, specifically Bengali, culture… but the writing didn’t pull me in as much as I had hoped. There were parts of the book where I though, Why is this included…? Overall I would recommend this book, it might be hard to get through at times but the interesting parts do outweigh most of the not interesting parts.

Book Two was “the curious incident of the dog in the night-time” by Mark Haddon
I loved this book. It is our February book club book. I was able to read it in one day! I think I am particularly drawn to it since I am a teacher and a teacher who has always been interested in “Special needs” students. Haddon does an awesome job of getting into the head of the character Christopher, there are times you seriously need to look at the front of the book to remind yourself it is a novel and not a true story. I recommend this to everyone, and SUPER RECOMMEND this to anyone with autistic/aspergers children, or even if you know any…

Home again…

Well we made it home safe… no thanks to strong winds in Chicago… I think Jason’s hand has recovered… :)

So highlights from the trip…

- We slept in a bed that Ewan Blair (Tony Blair’s son) has slept in. (Cathy is his TA and when he came to preview Yale she was out of town and offered her apartment to people coming to town, he stayed in her bed and that is where we slept all week)

- Jason’s friends from Africa, Cathy and Meredith, were totally awesome!

- The weather was BEYOND gorgeous most of the time…

- Our rental car was cute and fun…

Greetings from New Haven, CT

Well Jason and I are on vacation in New Haven, the home of Yale.  One of his good friends from Africa lives here and another drove up for the weekend.  We are having a good time hanging out.

We went to a really cool little hill/mountain yesterday called Sleeping Giant, it would have been cooler if 100ft into the “Grandma Route” my ankle didn’t start throbbing uncontrollably forcing me to turn back… but I insisted the others go up and it resulted in some good pictures…

We also went to a cool place called Lighthouse Point… that was BEAUTIFUL.  Very typical New England ocean, breeze and charm… I love it, it confirms that I would not mind living here someday… although… it seems there are NO, ZERO, NADA, ZIP, scrapbook stores around here… which is SUPER sad… Someone needs to do something about that… maybe someday it would be me!  :)  Doubtful, but the lottery is nice… :)

Well our time here is flying by, we will leave for home Tuesday… it feels like it is sooooo close… But then I will get to see my  puppies and kitties whom I miss VERY much.
