More books…

… for the 50 book challenge.

Book Six

The Gospel According to Dogs by Robert L. Short.  This book wasn’t what I was expecting but it wasn’t a total waste of the two hours it took to read it either… Kind of amusing and interesting perspective but I went into it expecting it to be more comedic and it is pretty serious.

Book Seven

Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli.  Rachel let me borrow this, it was a great quick read.  I really enjoyed it.  Spinelli writes great adolescent books and this was not an exception.  He leaves you wanting to know more but not in a bad way… I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick and fun read.

Wow

Just watched my TiVo’d American Idol…. BLAKE!!!!  Love him!

I Haven’t Fogotten the 50 Book Challenge…

Book Three
In the end of January/Beginning of February I started reading Wicked by GregoryMaguire… And I got stuck… It is an awesome story and I loved it, it is just one of those books that was hard to get throug. Kind of like Lord of the Rings, or The Grapes of Wrath… When you finish reading the book and summarize it in your own head it is a good story… but the journey getting there was rough.. :)

Book Four
The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards This was our March book club book… It was a decent story… kept me going until about 3/4 of the way through. Some of the things that I wanted more resolution to never happened or never happened in a satisfying way. The general premise for this book still amazes me though… the story line and plot had a lot of potential that I felt in the end wasn’t fulfilled… A lot of people on Shelfari say that they can’t really describe why in the end they didn’t like and I think I agree… it was ok, but not great.

Book Five
Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. I think Burroughs is an amazing author, he tells his own story very well… a story that must be hard to tell. The book can be graphic at parts (with gay sex) so if that bothers you it might not be a good read for you. But I have to say the story is great and as I said well told. It is a sad story but since the author is the main character we already know it must work out a little for him going into it all which makes it easier to get through the hard times. It was a perspective on life I don’t think I would have ever looked at without reading this book and I truly appreciate Burroghs for sharing it with us.

Up next on my list are some lighter choices, Stargirl and some goofy book about dogs that I bought… I need a break from the serious for awhile and I also need some quick reads if I hope to complete this challenge… :)
