So Jason and I went to the Berlin Zoo yesterday. It was really fun… I took about a million great photos and even some awesome videos that you will all never get to see. See my camera kinda got taken from a bench at a public transportation place… So that sucks… It was a nice camera, not cheap… but it is replaceable… I think the thing that makes me the saddest is the loss of the pictures on it… sure it was only pictures from like two days or so… but was really looking forward to them… Ohwell… so is life.

So Christmas at Niko’s was fun. Christmas in Germany is two days besides Christmas Eve, no one really knows why, but ohwell… We ate duck and rabbit… it is good we didn’t stay longer because we may have made our way to other animals I have had as pets and that wouldn’t be fun… The duck was ok, I didn’t really like the rabbit… I probably won’t have either again…
I have finished two books while here. Dean Koontz’s The Darkest Evening of the Year and Laura Weiss’s Such a Pretty Girl. The new Koontz book was awesome. Here is one of my favorite quotes from it (Rachel you have to read it!!):
Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocene, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do peance for all other illusions we allow ourselves and for the mistakes we make because of those illusions.
And finally… pictures of some of our shenanigans are available at Jason’s flickr.

Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy Birthday Rachel! I am in Germany… it is fun… and cold… lots of walking… lots of meat and cheese…. lots of German… We are at a friend of Jason’s currently and I am immersed to say the least in German… I understand about 50% and can respond/participate about 1%… it is interesting but I am getting by… I think it really helps my German as well…. I have used more at his friends house than I have any other time in Germany… although the time Jason abandoned me at the train station I had to use quite a bit… Well more stories for another time… and maybe even some pictures if you all play nice…

So I am participating in a pay it forward craft project. Here is what it is all about:I will send a handmade gift to the first three people who leave a comment and tell me that they want to pay it forward. If you’re interested you must have a blog and you must write a post offering to send your own handmade items to three of your readers.
The time line is pretty generous too: I have a year to send out my handmade items and you have a year to send out yours to the people who comment on your blog.
“As Miss Fish points out:
Please don’t be intimidated by the whole handmade thing. No one is expecting you to make a quilt, knit a sweater, or fold 1000 origami cranes. How about some handmade soap, or marble magnets, or a pretty ornament?
You know, you only need to send some hand-crafted love in the mail. It’s all good.”
