Start off day ahead of schedule at airport… Jason waits until I go trough security. I find a seat and wait, I can’t see a clock and I can kind of see the electronic sign that says Amsterdam, where my flight is heading, after waiting for what felt like too long I see the sign now says Frankfurt and go look at the time, it is 10minutes before my flight is supposed to leave, not board, LEAVE… go to ask at security place, someone else is asking. A security person says they don’t know but another passenger says the flight had to turn around on its way over and it is delayed. I only had one hour at Amsterdam until my next flight, I leave secure area to talk with ticket people, they say it will all need to be handled in Amsterdam… go back through secure area…. we eventually get to Amsterdam about 2.5-3 hours late. I go to a transfer desk, take a number and wait about 20minutes to be helped. Guy tells me they rebooked me on a flight that is leaving NOW, he calls gate to see if they will wait at all. He says to run, they leave in 20minutes promptly…. I run… Literally… For those of you who have seen me or know me in person… I DON’T RUN! I run, no line at passport check place… they stamp me and let me through… continue running. Get to gate… look at passport there and ask me questions about why I’m late, where I’m going where I was etc… all the usuals… I get on board and they hold the flight another 30min for some other connecting people… dang it, I could have peed and maybe even gotten some water… ohwell. I won’t be stuck in Amsterdam all night I will at least be in the US.
Flight leaves because I originally had over 3hours in Minneapolis and this flight was a little faster I was on track for a quick but do-able connection to my original flight in Minneapolis… good, I may end up home at the normal time…. Flight is going and girl one row ahead of me and three seats over is sick. I didn’t have time to take a second dose of airborne, too late now… anyway she is so sick that half way through flight they ask for doctors. I few people come and check her out, check blood pressure, temp, pulse, listen to heart… they say some things… I’m not listening, I have my movie turned up so I don’t hear her puke every time she does. Flight continues… she passes out in her boyfriends arms on the way to the bathroom at one point, he lays her in the aisle… she looks like she ways 70lbs… I think that could be part of the problem… but who knows… people come and check on them throughout the rest of the flight and talk to him about what to do with her at the gate. We arrive, (I have a little over one hour till my next flight leaves) and we all stay seated while paramedics come on board, check her out and eventually wheel her off. Then they tell us to stay seated until some government agency gives us clearance, in other words we are quarantined for awhile… I get off, have about 40-45 minutes until my flight leaves, go through first customs place and then have to claim my luggage and recheck it… my luggage doesn’t show…. I can’t wait any longer… continue on and get to my final flight about 2minutes before it boards (it was totally across the entire airport, went from g gates to b gates…)
On next flight, they start kicking passengers off because we are overweight, they kick off the last to check in. I technically checked in at the beginning of the day in Berlin… I safe… We get to Iowa around 9:05 pm…. I make a claim for my baggage and go to my car only to see snow up the to bottom of the car on all sides… I walk back in from my long term parking spot, woman says she will send someone. Old guy with truck and some shovels shows up and starts shoveling me out.. then he wants me to rock my car back and forth while he pushes, I am scared I will rocket forward into the car in front of me… he leaves to go get sand. I call my mom and my insurance company which has free roadside assistance… I am on phone with USAA insurance dude when old dude shows back up… he sands and has me try again… on second try we finally get it out… while I am about to hang up with USAA dude… I quickly tell him to cancel and he does… I head home… My tires don’t seem right… I wonder if they get frozen with a flat spot from sitting for two weeks…. I dunno… I figure that out with the rest of my life sometime today…
OMG! Let’s hope none of this happens to us on our trip. Cuz I would totally freak out. And after thinking about it, this sounds like some stuff that happened on Air India. Glad you’re home safely.
My whole flight was with NWA, usually a pretty good company… I don’t think any of this was airline specific… it all seems to be stuff that happens all the time, it just happened to me all in one day…
Holy cow, what a story! I’m glad you are home safe and sound.
Totally Crazy!!!! You tell the story really well in person, by the way…haha
